Review process
Once your report is submitted, you will receive an email confirmation with a temporary file number. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder, and consider adding coplogic.com to your trusted email list to ensure you receive all communication.
After submission, your report will be reviewed by Community Service Officers at the University of Illinois Police Department. All incidents filed using the online reporting system are subject to review. If additional information or investigation is needed, a member of the department may contact you.
You will receive an additional email if the status of your report changes. Possible status updates include:
- Approved – Your report has been accepted and filed.
- Rejected – A report may be rejected if it falls outside the University of Illinois Police Department’s jurisdiction or if the incident cannot be self-reported and requires an officer response. If the incident occurred elsewhere, you may need to contact the appropriate law enforcement agency.
Once your report is completed and approved, it will be filed and may be assigned to a CSO or police officer for follow-up. The decision to assign an investigator is based on several factors, including:
- The seriousness of the offense
- Time elapsed between the incident and the report
- Availability of witnesses or physical evidence
- Ability to identify a suspect or suspect’s vehicle
- Patterns of behavior
- Potential impact on the campus community
- Whether the incident is, or could become, sensitive in nature
Supervisors will evaluate these factors when determining the appropriate response to each report.
