Detective Bureau

The University of Illinois Police Department’s Detective Bureau is committed to conducting thorough investigations to ensure the safety and security of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign community. Our detectives work diligently to solve crimes, support victims and uphold justice with professionalism and integrity.

The Detective Bureau team includes experienced law enforcement professionals with specialized training in areas such as criminal investigations, forensic interviewing, victim support services, crime scene investigations, cybercrimes and financial investigations.

UIPD detectives regularly collaborate with local law enforcement agencies, the State’s Attorneys Office, Title IX, the Office for Student Conflict Resolution and other campus and community partners to ensure each case is handled appropriately and that affected individuals have access to the resources and support they need.

Once a police report is filed, the case is reviewed and assigned to either a patrol officer or a detective for follow-up.

You can request a copy of your police report by submitting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request. However, if your case is still under active investigation, your request may be denied until the investigation is complete.
