SafeWalks gets more mobile-friendly with app coming soon

URBANA, Ill. — Getting home safely on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus is about to get easier as members of the Student Patrol program prepare to launch a SafeWalks mobile app. Students who download the app will have a very simple way to request a SafeWalks escort from their mobile phones. The request made through the mobile app will go to the Student Patrol office, and patrollers will be dispatched to the requester’s location. Deceased man found in Champaign County was U. of I. student

URBANA, Ill. — The Champaign County Coroner confirmed on Monday that a body found in Tolono Township several miles south of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus is that of Vicente Mundo, a student who was reported missing last week. Since first responding to the scene near 900N and 1000E in rural Champaign County on Saturday morning, the Champaign County Sheriff's Office has been treating the incident as a homicide. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Police are looking for a U. of I. student who was reported missing this week after he left an apartment to meet a friend. U. of I. Champaign police seek missing 23-year-old

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Police are looking for a Champaign man who has been missing since New Year's Eve. Cristian Zamora, 23, was last seen on the evening of Dec. 31 near the intersection of Fourth and John streets, Champaign. Zamora is not a student, but he lives in the Campustown area. Although police continue efforts to locate Mr. Zamora, extreme cold temperatures and inclement weather increase the risk to Mr. Zamora should he be outdoors. Investigation into New Year’s Day shooting continues

URBANA, Ill. – Champaign County law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the circumstances around a Jan. 1 shooting in the parking lot of a Savoy, Ill., apartment complex that left two men wounded. Investigators with the Champaign County Multi-Jurisdictional Investigative Team are awaiting results from an Illinois State Police lab, which is conducting further analysis on evidence recovered from the scene.
