Generous donation helps police fight DUI
URBANA – Thanks to a generous donation, University of Illinois Police will be equipping one of their squad cars with a new in-car camera system expected to help strengthen court cases against drunken drivers. On Friday, Jim and Barb Esworthy and their Journey Foundation announced a donation of $9,553 to the University of Illinois Police Department for the purchase of the camera system, which provides valuable video evidence of field sobriety tests conducted on drunken drivers. Police officers ditching the razor for ‘No-Shave November’
URBANA – U. of I. Police officers again this year are going scruffy for a good cause. Police will participate in “No-Shave November,” a month-long initiative during which participants forgo shaving to evoke conversation and cancer awareness. The effort will generate a bit of money for the cause, too: Because growing facial hair bucks the normal appearance standards for sworn police personnel, officers and other staff members will have to make a donation to participate. Police agencies to hold women’s career fair
CHAMPAIGN – Police in Champaign County are teaming up to recruit more female officers for the county’s law enforcement agencies. Everyone is encouraged to attend a career fair on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Parkland College Student Union Building. Women who are employed as police officers and deputies in Champaign County will be present to answer questions about employment opportunities, give demonstrations and talk about a career in law enforcement. Campus officials publish annual Clery report
URBANA – The Division of Public Safety and Campus Code Compliance and Fire Safety on Tuesday announced the publication of their Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which they hope campus community members will review to increase their own awareness of public safety issues at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The report, which is available at http://police.illinois.edu/clery, includes statistics from the previous three years concerning reported crime that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
