CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – University Police are investigating after an attempted retail theft Thursday morning at an off-campus convenience store resulted in a store employee receiving non-life-threatening stab wounds. The incident prompted a campuswide Illini-Alert notification sent to all students, faculty and staff. Police initially were called at 3:53 a.m. Thursday by a store employee at Circle K, 51 E. Green St., Champaign, who reported that he was stabbed during a struggle with a man who attempted to take alcohol from the store without paying. University Police investigating shots fired incident
CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that occurred at 10:36 p.m. in the 600 block of South Second Street, Champaign. No injuries were reported. Police initially were on scene in just over one minute after multiple 911 calls from witnesses who heard a series of gunshots. After canvassing the area, officers recovered four shell casings and spoke with several witnesses who heard the shots fired. New traffic patterns for Fighting Illini football games
CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – Fighting Illini fans will want to make note of new traffic patterns and parking opportunities in effect for football gamedays. The new traffic patterns will enhance security near the stadium while keeping traffic flowing before and after the game. Additionally, a new parking deck located across the street from the stadium will have capacity for several hundred vehicles and is available for purchase in advance of the game via the ParkMobile app. The first football game of the 2023 season is Saturday, Sept. 2. U. of I. Police Chief accepts new position
URBANA, Illinois – Executive Director and Chief of Police Alice Cary announced today that she has accepted a position with the Silverthorne (Colorado) Police Department as its new Chief of Police. Her last day at the Division of Public Safety will be in late September. A national search for the next Executive Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police will be initiated.
