BALTIMORE – The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s efforts to keep community members informed of public safety issues has earned the “Clery Compliance Program of the Year” award. Named after a student who was killed in 1986 at Lehigh University, the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires all colleges and universities to track and publish crime data, as well as issue timely warnings when a significant crime poses an ongoing threat to the campus community. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and University of Illinois Police Department are releasing more information about an officer-involved shooting which occurred Thursday evening. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting after U. of I. Police officers and a Champaign County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a citizen's call regarding a person loading a semiautomatic handgun near John and Locust streets in Champaign. Generous donation helps UIPD body camera project

URBANA, Ill. – Thanks to a generous donation from Jim and Barb Esworthy of the Journey Foundation, the University of Illinois Police Department is moving toward equipping all of its officers with body cameras. On Friday, the Esworthys presented to the police department a $6,000 check, which will go toward converting the department’s existing squad-car camera and video management systems to the same system that the body cameras will run on. Traffic advisory: Some roads to close for Fourth of July events

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois Police Department wants to remind community members and travelers that road closures will affect traffic in the campus area throughout Wednesday’s Fourth of July events. The first set of road closures will begin at 8 a.m. on Kirby/Florida Avenue and Lincoln Avenue to accommodate the Youth Run and 5K events, followed by the Fourth of July parade.
