University Police investigating reported sexual assault

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois — University of Illinois Police officers responded to 57 E. Springfield Ave., Champaign, at 6:46 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, to investigate a sexual assault reported earlier that morning. While attempting to make contact at the property, a house that was supposed to be vacant and is scheduled for demolition, officers observed several individuals fleeing the building. University of Illinois Police arrest suspect in shooting near campus

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois — An 18-year-old Urbana man was arrested Monday morning for his role in an Oct. 18 shooting just off campus that left another person seriously injured. Immediately following the incident near Fifth and Green streets, Champaign, UIPD officers and detectives quickly developed suspect information by obtaining eyewitness accounts and video footage provided by local citizens. The Illinois State Police assisted in gathering evidence at the scene. UIPD investigating shooting near Green and Fifth streets

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois — At approximately 12:26 a.m. on October 18, 2025, the University of Illinois Police Department (UIPD) responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Green and Fifth Streets in Champaign. Officers arrived on scene within about a minute and discovered one male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. An Illini-Alert was issued at 12:29 a.m., advising the public to avoid the area.
