Investigation into New Year’s Day shooting continues

URBANA, Ill. – Champaign County law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the circumstances around a Jan. 1 shooting in the parking lot of a Savoy, Ill., apartment complex that left two men wounded. Investigators with the Champaign County Multi-Jurisdictional Investigative Team are awaiting results from an Illinois State Police lab, which is conducting further analysis on evidence recovered from the scene. A number of witnesses have already been interviewed, and investigators from several agencies continue to conduct interviews and follow-up interviews. Police investigate shooting at Savoy apartment complex

SAVOY, Ill. – Two people received non-life threatening injuries during a police-involved shooting at a Savoy apartment complex Thursday morning, though it is still unclear who fired the shots which caused the injuries. At about 1:05 a.m. Thursday, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Village at Colbert Park apartment complex, 100 Village Park Way, Savoy, for a report of shots fired. U. of I. Police honor guard members attend New York funeral

NEW YORK, N.Y. – In a show of support for New York Police Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, two members of the University of Illinois Police Department’s honor guard attended services there on Saturday.  The police department at the Urbana campus accepted JetBlue airlines’ offer to fly two officers to New York for free. Police Officers Chris Elston and Michael Unander, who are members of the department's honor guard, represented the entire University of Illinois system at the funeral on Saturday. Police make sure needy families have food on the table

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — U. of I. Police officers and others from the Fraternal Order of Police, Illini Lodge 17, spent Monday morning making sure that struggling Champaign-Urbana families will have food on the table this holiday season. This year, Illini Lodge 17 police officers and volunteers will personally deliver the food baskets to 450 families.
