UIPD releases report on campus crime statistics, safety policies
URBANA, Ill. – Serious crime is down in many categories on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, and relatively steady in other categories, according to an annual report released Wednesday by the University of Illinois Police Department. Party calls decrease as students collaborate to stop virus spread
URBANA, Ill. – The number of large parties on or near the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus has dropped precipitously in recent weeks as staff from the Division of Public Safety work to enforce public health rules and Illinois students have cooperated. Complaints for loud parties in the campus area dropped from 114 in the first week of the semester to 44 last week. UIPD Motorcycle Unit: A Brief History by Ofc George Sandwick & Ofc Kyle Krickovich
In 1997, UIPD LT Dave Nelson (Ret) and Ofc Steve Mechling (Ret) began researching motorcycles in policing. The research showed that motorcycles in a police setting could enhance traffic enforcement efforts and help establish better ties with the community. They had discovered that UIPD had tried out motorcycles in the 70’s, but the program was not long lived. Public comment encouraged during ILEAP accreditation
URBANA, Ill. – The University of Illinois Police Department is encouraging members of the general public to call in and leave comments while a law enforcement assessor examines the department’s policies, procedures, operations and management. The evaluation is a routine part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP) accreditation process. The evaluators last reviewed the University of Illinois Police Department in 2017 and gave the department ILEAP’s highest (Tier 2) accreditation level based on its ability to meet each of 180 evaluation criteria.
