UIPD reinforces commitment to stop drunken driving

The University of Illinois Police Department in the past couple weeks has spent more time conducting enforcement of driving under the influence violations, and patrol officers will continue to look for motorists who are putting others at risk. On July 16 alone, University Police officers made three arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol. During those stops, those three drivers provided breath samples indicating blood-alcohol concentrations between 0.10 and 0.16. The legal limit for driving is 0.08. UIPD conducts training exercises at Uni High

URBANA, Ill. — The University of Illinois Police Department will be conducting training exercises at University of Illinois Laboratory High School (Uni High) during the week of July 25 and early in the week of Aug. 1. Those in the area can expect to see a police presence and may observe police officers engaged in tactical operations immediately outside of the school. Boss asks for gift cards

A U. of I. student who works for a local business reported that her employer was the victim of deceptive practices. The student received a text message from someone claiming to be her supervisor who directed her to purchase gift cards from local retailers. The student used the business’s credit card to purchase $2,500 in gift cards and transferred the card information to the unknown person.

Traffic impacts expected for Freedom Celebration

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – The Champaign County Freedom Celebration will take place Monday at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and the events will affect traffic on campus. The first closures will begin around 8 a.m. Monday, when sections of Kirby Avenue and Lincoln Avenue on campus will close to accommodate the 5K and youth runs and the parade that immediately follows. Stood up

A U. of I. student reported that he was scammed out of $100 by a person he met online. The student arranged a dinner date with a woman through a dating app. While the student was waiting at the restaurant, he received a text from the woman indicating that she needed money to pay for a babysitter. The student sent electronic gift cards but the woman never arrived for the date.
