Seller disappears

A U. of I. student attempted to purchase a gaming console from an online seller advertising the item for sale on social media. The student and the seller agreed on a sale price of $500, and that the student would pay half in advance and half when he received the item. The student transferred $250 via online payment. As of Tuesday, the student had not received the item and the seller has stopped returning his messages.

Extortion scam

A U. of I. student was contacted through an internet messaging app by an unknown person, to whom he consensually sent images of an intimate nature. The unknown person then threatened to post the images publicly unless the student paid the scammer. The student did not pay.

Police officers and Public Safety staff prepare for dangerous situations

URBANA, Illinois – Ahead of the new school year, University of Illinois Police officers completed intensive training they hope to never use in real life. In July and August, all University Police officers who might be called to respond to an active shooter situation in the campus area completed a refresher course in how to react quickly and safely to keep campus community members as safe as possible. Police, community collaborate for National Night Out on Aug. 2

URBANA, Illinois — The University of Illinois Police Department will host National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 2, to bring together law enforcement and community members to promote awareness, safety and unity. The event will take place between 5-8 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the Arboretum, 1800 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana. It is free and open to the public.
